The world is both bigger and smaller than you could possibly imagine.
I grew up in a small East Texas town of just 1,100 people, where my worldview felt narrow and fixed. At sixteen, I raised money from local businesses to join a school trip to England—a journey my family could not have afforded without their generosity. That experience changed my life. I remain deeply grateful to those business owners who invested in a teenager’s dream.
Travel opened my eyes in two ways: I discovered that the world is unimaginably vast, full of possibilities far beyond what I had known. At the same time, I realized the world is smaller than I imagined—because no matter the language, culture, or background, there is a shared human thread that binds us together.
I continue to be amazed not only by the differences across places and people, but by the commonalities that unite us.
If I could offer one piece of advice, it would be simple: Go. See the world. It will change you.

“Loving life is easy when you are abroad. Where no one knows you and you hold your life in your hands all alone, you are more master of yourself than at any other time”
